Houshold Tip
Need to clean tarnished silverware? Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Fill with water, adding 1 tablespoon of baking soda per 2 cups of water. Heat to 150 degrees. Lay silverware in the pan, touching the aluminum foil. The stains will vanish away.

Fascination with Antarctica
Antarctica has a peculiar group of fish called the ice fish. These fish have no red pigment in their blood to carry oxygen. The fish do not need the pigment because they can absorb oxygen perfectly well without it. Oxygen dissolves better in cold temperatures. The fish have a large volume of clear blood instead, and this gives the fish an unusual white color, almost ghostly. Many other Antarctic sea creatures, including some fish, have antifreeze in their blood.

Beginning today, we're doing something a little different with our newsletter.
If you're like me, you receive email newsletters just about every day from businesses you've had relationships with, which are loaded with sales promotions, special prices, limited time offers, and flashy banners telling you to BUY, BUY, BUY! You get bombarded with advertising and sales promotions everywhere you turn, and your email inbox is no exception.
And, if you're like me, most of the time you can't press the delete key fast enough!
We want to give you a break from all that. What we've done is created a monthly newsletter just for you called "Value For Life". The emphasis of the newsletter is to provide you with useful information, factoids, and tips that are interesting and fun to read and share with others. A few of the articles may be furniture or home related, but most are not. Just interesting stuff that hopefully will enrich your life just a little bit.
So sit back from your keyboard and take a few minutes out of your busy day to relax and read through some of the interesting things we've put together for you this month. We hope you enjoy this new email format as much as we enjoyed creating it for you.
P.S. You may ask yourself why we would take all the time and expense to create and send you a newsletter and not try to sell you anything. We are a business, after all. The answer is simple. We thought if we sent you something useful and informative, it would actually be read, and thereby act as a "soft reminder" to think of us the next time you need to consign or purchase home furnishings and decor, and to tell others about us as well.

The Gratitude Challenge Showing gratitude for everything, ranging from mundane trivia to life-changing events, is frequently touted as the route to happiness. Gratitude can be defined as a form of self-acceptance that shows your appreciation for your surrounding situation. You can be grateful for practically anything: the tangibles and the intangibles, the gains and the losses, the past and the future.
Certain religions and schools of thought have included gratitude and vigorously advocated it in their doctrines. Show gratitude for how your past had shaped your present, show gratitude for all the luxury that you have, and show gratitude for every relationship and opportunity you encounter.
Many have considered gratitude to be an act of love that will 'nourish the soul'. In other words, showing gratitude allows you to see the world in a better light and helps you to undermine all your frowns and woes. The desired outcome of gratitude is that man will realize how small his worries are and thereby develop a deeper insight into the purposes of life.
For believers in the law of attraction, gratitude is an indispensable ingredient in the course of manifesting your wants. Without gratitude, you will be attracting the opposite of what you want instead. In short, living a life of gratitude not only helps you boost the quality of your life by increasing the frequency of feeling bliss, but also helps you 'grow.'
Frequently expressing gratitude, however, can lead to a sense of complacency. There is a very high chance of missing crucial opportunities when complacency sets in.
So the challenge is to find the balance between being grateful and complacent. It is possible to live the habit of showing gratitude sincerely every moment of every day and yet retain a strong drive for personal growth. Most importantly, learn to express gratitude without becoming complacent.

Learn a Foreign Language
 Learning a foreign language can create success and confidence in all paths of life. It never occurs to small children that they may not master the language. They will just keep experimenting until they get the result they are looking for.
Here is an idea for a gift - a language course. Many introductory language products are inexpensive, educational and fun, with a varying degree of 'academic' structure. The products would make a great gift for a student, a language enthusiast, or even for someone taking a trip in the near future.
It doesn't have to be just learning some new grammar concepts, some vocabulary, and some different sounds. A foreign language also gives insights into other cultures.
Who can speak more precisely about snow: someone with three or four words for it (snow sleet powder) or an Eskimo with 23 words for it? And which is more efficient: the German word "zeitgeist" (which roughly means the outlook of a period or of a generation) or the paragraph of English you'd need to say the same thing?
Learning a foreign language has other advantages as well. Most people experience a general improvement in memory from studying a language. The government sees its importance and spends over $6 million every year to fund elementary school programs for teaching foreign languages. There are also volunteer programs where students attending some universities work on creating and instructing these programs.
Remember that many foreign languages relate to other languages and share many features. If you already know some Spanish, learning Italian or French is much easier.
By learning to speak, read, and write a foreign language, you possess the potential to develop your career by working in a foreign country. Or, you can set out on a new career as a translator or English instructor. Learning a language will also enhance your travels to the foreign country.
